“ Against the background of increasing social and international awareness, some African American artists were called to assert a different aesthetic, one in which art was not created as a statement of race, but rather as one of humanity. This was art without illusions or obvious references to black stereotypical life of black imagery. These artists were neither defined by the sociopolitical climate, nor bound by imposed standards of "blackness" and the mandated proliferation of the black agenda.

Their artistic vision was as unique as a fingerprint, and as intimate as the deepest secret. Non-political works were not a denial of heritage, but rather an acknowledgment of the birth of an artist soul and the fulfillment of their passion”.
